Photographing weddings since 2001, I have seen it all, from three-day soireés to last minute “just us” nuptials. While they are all special in some way, there are some that really stand out for me…it may be a unique story (lifelong friends getting married at 80-years-old?), an unconventional ceremony (exchanging vows aboard an airborne biplane!?), or it might have taken place at a venue I either find particularly beautiful, or one that I’ve not shot at much and want to show something new. Or maybe it was an event where I was given time to flex some creative muscles (no, those illuminated smoke sparkler exits, flame-filled diamond rings, and epic tide pool reflections of dramatic Key West skies don’t just happen by magic), and sometimes it’s just a great connection with genuine, fun-loving, laid-back people whose conversations I cherished and whose stories I want to share.
Capturing Jessica and Michael's wedding day in Key West was an absolute delight. Their love story began in Vale Colorado, eventually landing them in the Southernmost City at The Oldest House in Key West, which provided a historic and intimate backdrop for their friends and family. Surrounded by lush foliage and towering trees, we documented their day with cherished family members, each photograph a testament to the love and joy that only a Key West wedding can bring!
Crystal and Nicholas, who initially connected through online gaming, decided to turn their virtual friendship into a lifelong commitment. Nicholas relocated to Texas, marking a significant step in their relationship. Later that year, he planned a special birthday gift during a trip to Wheaton, Illinois. Following a college basketball game, Nicholas orchestrated a heartwarming proposal with an engagement ring hidden in dessert. As the ring revealed itself, Nicholas went down on one knee, and Crystal joyfully accepted his proposal. Their journey brought them eventually to Key West, where I would meet them and help them document their big day on Sunset Key!
When Teresa and James were referred to me by a mutual friend local to Key West, they reached out to me about not just their upcoming Key West wedding, but also their welcome party which would be taking place the evening before. As I came to know them better in the months leading up to the big day, I knew this was going to be a lovely couple to be part of their love story.
Karen and Keith’s Key West wedding at The Reach Resort was celebrated in style with an oceanview ceremony on the gazebo over the water, a balcony cocktail hour, and beachfront reception with dinner and dancing in the Caribe ballroom. Congratulations to the happy couple!
Emily and Ken’s wedding in Key West was celebrated at the Southernmost Beach Resort with their closest friends and family in attendance. After an oceanfront ceremony overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, they joined on the white fluffy sands of the Southernmost Beach to dance the night away and revel in the warm tropical vibes of their wedding day in paradise.
Each wedding holds its own unique charm, and Susan and Tim's special day was no exception. Let me take you on a journey through their intimate Smathers Beach wedding, as I had the privilege of capturing every heartfelt moment as they celebrated their elopement in a special ceremony on the beach and photos around town.
Sometimes a little screen time is a good thing! Especially when it results in you meeting the love of your life! One day Brian ended up in conversation with….well….Brian! Besides the uniqueness of meeting a partner who shares your same name, they knew pretty much instantly that it was “right” from the start! They’d been to Key West several times with a group of friends, and have so many special memories here, including walking along Truman Waterfront when “Big Brian” proposed! They knew when it came time to plan the big day, they had to have it in paradise.
Karen and Curtiss have a love story that radiates with joy, spontaneity, and adventure. Their journey began when the bride, a college seagrass instructor, caught the groom’s attention while he was leading a group of divers in the lagoon where her students were swimming. She would recount later that he climbed up the ladder, and emerged from the water with a shake of his hair, reminiscent of something out of a James Bond film. And just like that, their love story had begun, and with Key West as both their hometown and their wedding destination, it was a celebration like no other.
It was spring of 2019 when Matt went on a first date to the movies with Eric, and even though they didn’t love the film, they still considered that the first day of their love story. I would eventually meet them when Matt planned a surprise engagement photo shoot and Eric said yes! Fast forward to the big day of the wedding, when the guys came back to Key West and officially tied the knot at the Casa Marina Resort.
Going to a friend’s for a birthday party might not seem like the start of a typical love story, but for Kaitlin and Blaine, it was the genesis of a beautiful relationship that started as they both arrived to the party, ended up on the same four-wheeler together, and the rest - as they say - was history! I knew they had something special when I met them first during their Engagement, and was thrilled to find out soon after that their wedding would also take place here in paradise as well at none other than the beautiful Reach Resort.
When Christian’s cousin introduced him to his friend Alexis, the start of a relationship was formed. Fast forwarding from there, they would eventually end up on a boat together, floating down the same river where they’d had their first date, and Christian proposed. It was only natural that between their love of the water and a love of the outdoors, that they should choose Key West for their destination wedding. This is where I met them and was able to capture their big day at the Opal Key Resort and Marina.
So a girl walks into a bar….The owner’s there…big tall handsome guy, he is. He says ‘Hey, I remember you; you came here a year ago.’ Girl says ‘Yeah? What about it?’. Guy says ‘I’ve been waiting for you to walk back through those doors someday.’ Girl says ‘Why’s that?’. He says ‘So I could ask you on a date, fall in love, and run away to Key West to get married someday’.”!
Okay, so maybe that last part is a liiiiittle bit of an exaggeration, but that girl? That was my bride, Jessica! And the guy? Her handsome groom, Shaun! And they DID go on that date, they DID fall in love, and they DID (of course!) come to Key West to get married!
What’s the perfect remedy for two people in the medical field when they fall in love? Head to Key West and say “I Do!” of course! Sam and Megan met when Megan was working as a nurse and Sam as a medic. They learned quickly their mutual love of family walks, Disney, and fireworks, and a relationship grew.
When it came time to ask Megan to marry him, Sam borrowed a tactic that had worked for his own dad many years before, and wrapped a present, proposing on Christmas Day! From their home in Deerfield Beach, they planned the perfect wedding in paradise, and I had the honor of taking part as their Key West photographer to capture the memories!
How is it that 15 minutes can feel like an eternity, but 15 years can fly by in an instant? When Shandi and Jason first met, it was as coworkers 15 years ago. Their journeys destined for two separate paths, life happened, until early 2018 when they were reunited and realized they loved spending time together. I would later meet them when Jason contacted me to capture his proposal undercover at the Reach Resort. Shandi of course said “Yes!” and a year later, when the couple decided it wasn’t enough just to get engaged in Key West, they wanted to get married here too, I got to be there to see them walk down the aisle as well!
What do you get when a couple meets up for margaritas and hits it off from day one? You get the start of a love story that can only culminate with a wedding in Key West, where “5 o’clock somewhere” is a state of being and margaritas are a way of life. Kimberly and Jason’s relationship then grew over dog walks, Netflix binges, and evening on the back deck sipping whiskey or having a glass of wine, when one rainy day in Portsmouth, Jason surprised Kimberly and asked her to be his wife!
When Eugene and Elizabeth met for the first time, celebrating with a first date at the National Whitewater Center, they knew there was something about each other that they loved. With a mutual love of outdoor activities, running, cycling, hiking, yoga, camping, their relationship grew. Even with quiet days spent at home reading or doing home improvement projects, being together was what mattered. Their love of travel and trying new things meant no day would be boring, and is no doubt what led them to choose a destination like Key West for their wedding day!

When Ashley and Alex met in college, they realized a mutual love of architecture while hanging out in the same circle of friends, but eventually their affections for each other grew. With a passion for movie nights, ski trips, hiking, brewery-hopping, city sight-seeing, and - appropriate for a wedding in Key West - long naps on the beach. I would get the opportunity to be part of their wedding day celebration, as they invited family and friends down to paradise and got married aboard the historic Schooner America II!
In a town where destination weddings for visiting couples is the norm, it was a welcome delight to celebrate with Elizabeth Toppino and Steven Davies, two Key West locals who brought together friends and family for their joyous celebration as they said their “I do’s” and danced the night away as husband and wife!
So much love, family, and happy memories! That’s what comes to mind when I think back on Ava and Adam’s big day in Key West! Originally meeting online, they realized they shared love of the outdoors through fishing and camping trips.
Once Adam knew Ava was “the one”, he proposed during a sunset cruise in Key West, and realized they loved the town so much they had to get married here as well! Enjoy their wedding day below and relive all the happy memories together as they celebrate at Fort Zachary Taylor State Park and declare their love to the setting sun.
Every now and then, I get clients like Rob and Bill, who bring a whole new meaning to having a bright, vibrant, colorful kind of wedding day! Between their vibrant ensembles, energetic downtown photo locations, rainbow smoke bombs, and historic schooner ceremony sail amid the blue hue waters of the Atlantic and the warm tones of the sunset, it was a day filled with joy, laughter, and lots of love!
Cotton candy skies, colorful sparkly stones, and a circle of loving family members were the order of the day for Carly and Ron’s Key West wedding on Sunset Key! It was a magnificent day filled with magic, as the bride and groom exchanged their vows and welcomed in a new chapter in their lives together as husband and wife
As a fun loving couple who loves to travel and go on outdoor adventures in their home state of Colorado, exploring the local food scene and diving into new experiences is just one of the things that Kim and Darren enjoy together. It was no wonder, then, that they would choose a destination like the Florida Keys, where beauty, culture, character, adventure - and yes, good food! - are in abundance!

I’ve done every kind of wedding you can think of….on airplanes, on boats, on beaches….in gardens and churches, on rootops and inside historic fortresses….you name it, I’ve done it.
But it was not until recently that I’d ever done a surprise wedding! Yes, you read that correctly. Engaged before the pandemic, plans kept getting pushed back and back. The bride being herself a wedding planner, it was clear planning her own wedding while also tending to her clients would be just too much.
That’s when David decided to plan their day as a complete surprise! And so on a sunny day in Key West, with guests flown in from near and far, the bride who always makes days perfect for everyone else, was surprised with a ceremony she never could have imagined!
Kayla and Greg went to college together in Baltimore and shared a mutual group of friends, but it wasn’t until after graduation at a friend’s party that - over a game of beer pong, no less! - the spark of something more became apparent. A weekend together afterward revealed that they had a lot in common, and that they had both grown up not far from each other in nearby towns back home in Connecticut! Upon returning from the trip, Greg asked Kayla out on a date, and that was the beginning of the journey that would eventually lead them Key West, Florida for their wedding!
They say the best relationships start out as friendships. Such was the case when Katie and Ed’s relationship first began as coworkers and eventually blossomed into friends. Over the years, this grew into a romance, and when she was least expecting it, Katie realized they were meant to be! Combining a love of travel, binge watching their favorite tv shows, playing tennis, and rowing classes, the couple had so much in common that it would naturally lead to their engagement.
Like something out of a fairy tale, Ed flew Katie to Paris, and under the Eiffel Tower, he asked her to spend the rest of their lives together! This is when they decided to invite their closest friends and family to join them in Key West for their romantic destination wedding!
There are some weddings that truly stand out, not just for the stunning locations or picturesque backdrops, but for the genuine love and joy radiating from the couple. Rebekah and Chris's wedding at Banana Bay Resort in Marathon, FL, nestled in the heart of the Florida Keys, was one such unforgettable event.
