My Own Teen Years Saw My First Teen Photo Shoots 

Even before I pursued photography as a vocation, I was always the one taking pictures. Around 15 or 16, my dad gave me his old Mamiya camera, and I burned through rolls of film faster than my part-time-job could keep up with. One of the first “real” photo shoots I organized, was to get all my girlfriends together and take pictures in every outfit and hair style we could think of. I still remember the unbridled enthusiasm we all had for the shoot, and the few inches taller everyone felt as they left when we were done.

This love of young-women’s portraits is something that continued into Photography school, where I was always booking studio time to capture high school seniors and teen modeling portfolios.

Now 18 years into my career, I still hold a special place for this time in a young girl’s life, when rites of passage are a regular part of growing up, and that carefree, fun-loving, “take on the world” mentality is still unwavering.
