Ashley and Alex | Schooner America 2.0
When Ashley and Alex met in college, they realized a mutual love of architecture, studying in the same program at Roger Williams University in Rhode Island. They were in the same circle of friends, but eventually their affections for each other grew.
With a passion for movie nights, ski trips, hiking, brewery-hopping, city sight-seeing, and - appropriate for a wedding in Key West - long naps on the beach, a marriage proposal followed. While walking in the park in their old college town on the auspice of stopping by to see an architecture project Alex was working on, they took a stroll down by the rocks, and Alex asked Ashley to marry him!
Not long after, I would get the opportunity to be part of their wedding day celebration, as they invited family and friends down to paradise and got married aboard the historic Schooner America II!

The couple arrived shortly after their guests, who had all gathered on the boat docks outside the schooner to meet and greet one another. The bride’s father escorted her onto the huge wooden vessel, and after some introductions by the crew, we were headed out of the Key West Bight onto the harbour to soak up the beautiful ocean views and feel the swift pull of the sails as the captain steered us into the open ocean.
The ceremony took place on the deck, and after an exchange of vows and rings, the couple had their first kiss and were officially married! We returned to the dock for additional photos with the family, incorporating the colorful surroundings of the harbour and the lush greenery of the nearby Marker hotel into the images.
Following a tour of the best photo spots around the area, including the Welcome to Key West postcard mural, the Red Doors, the Flagler Railroad Museum, the Turtle museum, Dockmaster building, and the colorful pink Harpoon Harry’s building, we circled back to where the couple’s guests were ready to head to their luncheon reception and enjoy the rest of the day together!
Congratulations Ashley and Alex! I wish you many happy years and a lifelong of continued adventures and memories!
